Charley leaves trail of destruction in Florida

　PORT CHARLOTTE, Florida (Reuters) - Hurricane Charley has devastated Florida's west coast with winds of 145 mph (233 kph), ripping apart mobile homes, snapping cement columns and shearing off roofs in unprepared seaside towns.
　Charley, which strengthened rapidly into a rare and powerful Category 4 storm, the second strongest on a scale used to rate hurricanes, roared ashore over the resort island of Captiva off southwest Florida on Friday, further south than expected.
