6.5m people wait in fear as Hurricane Charley hits

　WEATHER forecasters warned of a "nightmare scenario" last night as Hurricane Charley bore down on Florida, packing winds of up to 145mph and threatening more than 6.5 million people in its path.
　Governor Jeb Bush declared a state of emergency and nearly two million residents and tourists were ordered to leave in the biggest evacuation in Florida’s history.

　気象予報官は、昨夜、ハリケーン「チャーリー」がフロリダを襲ったことから「悪夢のシナリオ」を警告した。145mph(風速 64m)の暴風を伴い進路にあたる地域では６５０万人以上の人々が不安な時を過ごしている。
　州知事ジェブ・ブッシュは緊急事態宣言を出し、およそ２００万人の住民や観光客がフロリダ歴史上最大規模の避難勧告を受けている。
